Earlier today, Pinoy AvGeeks and AVNormals rejoiced at the sight of a very rare bird making its very first landing in Philippine soil: the Boeing B787 Dreamliner.

Royal Brunei (IATA: BI; ICAO: RBA), the very first Southeast Asian carrier to have a Dreamliner was kind enough to utilize this beautiful plane twice weekly (Wed and Sat) to MNL starting today.

After my afternoon meeting at the airport, I walked all the way from Bay 01 of the NAIA Terminal 1 looking for any of our servicing teams’ vehicle roaming at the Ramp. I was able to find a servicing team (they just finished loading the catering for Singapore Airlines) which is ready to head back to our unit. I rode our catering truck and instructed the driver to position the vehicle parallel to the runway, as I saw in FlightRadar24 that the B787 is on its final approach to MNL via RWY06.

I was able to catch the “touch down” moment of the B787 to Philippine soil, and immediately tweeted about it:

Seems that @tweeting787 got impressed with my shot 🙂

Here are the rest of my iPhone photos (yes, since I came from a business meeting, I wasn’t able to bring my dSLR) …

Dream no more: the Boeing B787 Dreamliner is in Manila!
The Royal Brunei B787 being towed to NAIA’s Parking Gate 9
Ground personnel of Royal Brunei having a hard time positioning the B787 at NAIA’s Gate 9 (the aero bridge position is not precise with the aircraft doors). Having the nose wheel of the B787 parked a notch after the B-777 marking makes sense 🙂 To our friends at the local media: the B787 is NOT the largest commercial plane from Boeing. Nor that the B787 is bigger than the B777. Please.
The closest I could be with the first B787 to visit MNL. Until next time!
