Acer has secured its place on Forbes’ prestigious list of the World’s Top Companies for Women for the second consecutive year in 2023. The multinational tech giant has made a noteworthy ascent from 291 to 259 in the overall rankings, claiming the 12th spot in the highly competitive Semiconductors, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Technology Hardware & Equipment category.

Forbes, in collaboration with Statista, conducted a comprehensive survey involving 70,000 women across 37 territories. The assessment criteria encompassed various aspects such as workplace practices, gender pay equity, discrimination handling, and equal opportunities, providing a thorough evaluation of each company’s commitment to fostering an inclusive work environment.

Acer’s elevation in the rankings underscores the company’s unwavering dedication to cultivating diversity and promoting a workplace where women can thrive. This recognition speaks volumes about Acer’s ongoing efforts to create an environment that values and supports the contributions of women in the workforce.

In the Philippines, Sue Ong-Lim has been at the helm as the Managing Director of Acer, overseeing a workforce of 139 employees. Ong-Lim’s journey with the company began in 2009 when she assumed the role of Sales Manager. Her ascent through the ranks culminated in her appointment as Managing Director this year.

In an exclusive interview, Ong-Lim shared insights into her leadership philosophy. Describing herself as business-driven, she emphasized her personal connection with Acer’s employees, partners, and customers. The Acer Philippines Managing Director attributes her success as a leader to her forward-thinking vision and an insatiable thirst for learning. She believes that maintaining a learner’s mindset is crucial, even for those at the pinnacle of their careers.

“Acer has 34.7% and 39% market share of consumer and gaming notebooks in the Philippines, respectively. This means that more than a third of Filipino consumers who have a laptop own an Acer. The company has decades of building and strengthening brand equity through consistent sales, marketing, and customer service efforts. I see that as our edge over our competitors. I believe in equality and inclusivity and that people, regardless of gender, are what make an organization special and successful,” said Ong-Lim.

Addressing the challenges posed by the male-dominated industry, Ong-Lim boldly stated that her gender has not hindered her progress as a leader. Her journey serves as a testament to Acer’s commitment to breaking gender barriers and providing equal opportunities for women in the tech sector. As Acer continues to ascend in the global rankings, it is evident that the company’s dedication to diversity and inclusion remains a driving force behind its success.
