Coron has been selected as the venue for a prominent World Bank conference centered on sustainable landscape management. The three-day workshop, drawing together environmental experts, international stakeholders, and delegates from nations including Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, the US, Singapore, and South Korea, aimed to explore regional best practices in forest land rights recognition and sustainable landscape management.
Co-hosted by the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), the Global Partnership for Sustainable and Resilient Landscapes (PROGREEN), and the World Bank multi-donor trust fund Enhancing Access to Benefits while Lowering Emissions (EnABLE), the event took place at the eco-luxury TAG Resort Coron. This choice of venue facilitated interactions between World Bank officials, environmental experts, and leaders of the Tagbanua community. Discussions revolved around land rights recognition and conservation strategies, culminating in the issuance of Certificates of Ancestral Land Titles to indigenous communities.
Among the esteemed speakers and facilitators were Palawan Governor Victorino Dennis Socrates, Coron Mayor Mario Reyes, Jr., NCIP Chairperson Jennifer Pia Sibug-Las, PROGREEN’s Patricia Kristjanson, Senior Social Development Specialist Satoshi Ishihara, alongside NCIP officials and key World Bank representatives.
