The Cebuana Lhuillier-backed RP Co-ed Slo Pitch team kicked off with a bang at the Co-ed Slo-pitch Softball Asia Cup held in Pattaya, Thailand happening from today until the 27th of May 2023. The tournament featured teams from various countries, all vying for a chance to secure one of the three World Cup berths available.

In their opening match, the Philippine national team faced a formidable Chinese team and emerged victorious with a close score of 7-6. The game showcased the team’s skills, determination, and teamwork, setting a positive tone for their journey in the tournament.

With their first win under their belt, the Philippine team geared up for their next challenge against Singapore, which was scheduled to take place later in the day. Coach Ana Maria Santiago expressed her confidence in the team’s abilities and their potential to make a significant impact in the tournament. The players were motivated and focused on securing another victory that would bring them closer to their ultimate goal of earning a spot in the World Cup.

“We had a great training ahead of the tournament and I’m confident the team will deliver. We’re all hungry for a World Cup slot,” said Coach Santiago.

Aside from the Philippines, other strong teams from the region participated in the Co-ed Slo-pitch Softball Asia Cup. Japan, known for its strong softball tradition, brought a skilled and experienced team to compete for the coveted World Cup berths. Chinese-Taipei, another softball powerhouse, showcased its talent and determination to succeed. China, Singapore, and Thailand also fielded competitive teams, all with their eyes set on the top spots in the tournament.

The atmosphere in Pattaya was charged with excitement and anticipation as fans, coaches, and players from different nations gathered to witness the thrilling matches. The tournament not only showcased the athleticism and competitive spirit of the participating teams but also served as a platform for cultural exchange and friendship among players and supporters.

“I’m so proud with how the team played in the 1st game, beating a strong quality Chinese team. I know they have prepared hard for this and I’m confident they will nail one of those World Cup slots,” according to Jean Henri Lhuillier, Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) President.

As the tournament unfolded, each game brought forth its own set of challenges and surprises. The teams battled it out on the field, displaying their prowess in batting, pitching, and fielding. Spectators were treated to thrilling moments, nail-biting finishes, and outstanding individual performances.

With the stakes high and the competition fierce, every game became crucial for the teams aiming to secure a World Cup berth. The journey towards the top was fraught with obstacles, demanding mental and physical resilience from the players.
