PLDT Inc. has made history by securing a five-time victory at the Ookla Speedtest Awards 2022, becoming the first company in the Philippines to achieve such a feat. The country’s largest digital services provider has once again affirmed its dominance by attaining a top speed score of 86.52 in 2022, as announced by the global benchmarking company, Ookla. PLDT has maintained its consistent performance in providing the fastest internet speeds in the country for five (05) years straight, solidifying its position as the leading Internet Service Provider in the Philippines, thanks to its aggressive network expansion and commitment to delivering a high-quality customer experience.

The PLDT Group has been instrumental in the Philippines’ digitalization, providing connectivity and digital services to more areas across the country. As of 2022, PLDT has recorded 6.08 million fiber-powered ports, expanding its coverage to around 17,700 barangays nationwide. With its continuous efforts to enhance its network capabilities and provide better customer service, PLDT is reinforcing its position as a leading provider of digital services in the Philippines.

“PLDT’s commitment is to help build and empower the nation by setting the bar high in providing world-class digital services for Filipinos. For the past five years, PLDT has made big strides to elevate our customers’ experience by delivering the best fixed network services. We intend to keep this momentum and to go above and beyond in ensuring that our customers get the best digital experience wherever they need it – at home, school, or the office,” according to PLDT President and CEO Alfredo S. Panlilio.

As the only telco provider in the Philippines capable of delivering fiber-optic speeds of up to 10 Gbps, PLDT has placed the country on par with other first-world nations such as South Korea, Japan, Norway, Italy, New Zealand, and the USA in terms of ultra-fast internet speeds. This groundbreaking move was made available to the public in 2021, cementing PLDT’s position as the leading provider of high-speed internet in the country.

In 2022, PLDT reached an all-time high in the number of home broadband customers, adding 1.1 million new fiber subscribers and capturing 59% of the fiber customer industry growth. This brings PLDT Home’s total fiber subscribers to 2.9 million, making it the go-to telco provider for Filipinos who demand the fastest internet speeds and future-ready innovations in their homes. PLDT Home has boosted its efforts to enhance the digital experience of its customers by increasing the speeds of all its Fiber plans up to two times faster than previous speeds.

Through its ICT subsidiary ePLDT, the PLDT Group provides data center, multi-cloud, and cybersecurity solutions that enable digital transformation for large companies and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to help drive inclusive economic growth. With its advanced infrastructure and comprehensive services, ePLDT remains the country’s leading provider of data centers and multi-cloud managed service offerings.

PLDT is the only telco in the Philippines that has ever achieved a five-peat for the highest award from Ookla. According to Ookla, only a handful of internet service providers have won the prestigious award for five consecutive years worldwide. In Southeast Asia, only PLDT as the leading telco in the Philippines has this honor, alongside Singapore’s ViewQWest.

“With over 18 million consumer-initiated tests taken daily and billions of data points gathered, the Ookla data paints a clear picture of the performance, quality, and availability of virtually every network in the world. We are proud to recognize PLDT’s hard work in providing the fastest Internet experience in the Philippines and celebrate their achievements in superior network performance over the last 5 years,” said Ookla’s Chief Technology Officer, Luke Deryckx, affirming PLDT’s superior network performance for the past five years.
