When I travel around the country, among my (personal) requirements when choosing a place of stay is its proximity to the airport and a mall. I’m the “paranoid” type of traveler who is always afraid that I might leave something at home and worst, for me to miss my flight, thus it is advantageous to be staying near (or right next) to a mall and near the airport — as much as possible.

During my recent overnight trip to Cebu, I had the chance of staying at Summit Galleria Cebu, a hotel that is right next to a Robinsons Mall (it’s actually within the Robinsons Galleria Cebu Complex).

The hotel has a total of 220 rooms (187 Deluxe Rooms, 16 Premier Rooms, and 17 Summit Suites: Mango, Sinulog, Lapu-lapu). They also cater to MICE (Meeting, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) events with their ballrooms, function rooms, and meeting rooms.

Proximity to the Airport & a Mall

The flagship hotel of Summit Hotels and Resorts, Summit Galleria Cebu is only twelve (12) kilometers away from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA/RPVM). On a traffic-less day, you will reach the hotel from the airport in 30 minutes or less.

If you are traveling for business, the hotel is just five (05) minutes away from the Cebu International Port and Bureau of Customs Cebu.

One of the things making Summit Galleria Cebu awesome is its proximity to a mall (based on my personal requirements). As a matter of fact, the hotel is accessible from within Robinsons Galleria Cebu (mall) through Cafe Summit and vice-versa.

If you want to have a quick tour around the city, the hotel is just two (02) kilometers away from the Basilica Minore del Santo Niño de Cebu, Magellan’s Cross, and Fort San Pedro; and around six (06) kilometers away from the Taoist Temple. Regular taxi units and GrabCar/GrabTaxi are available in Cebu during the time of my visit.

Dining Options

On the ground floor of the hotel is its own restaurant Cafe Summit which offers all-day dining. The restaurant is open to the general public (not only to checked-in hotel guests), as it is also accessible via the Robinsons Galleria Cebu mall.

I had no intentions of trying out their buffet breakfast (part of the accommodations), but when I saw how appetizing their garlic fried rice and corned beef were, I gave in…

Browse through Cafe Summit’s menu here. If you are looking for fast food options, there is a lot inside the adjoining mall and there are even convenience stores around the hotel premises.

Hotel Room: At-Home Feeling

I was billeted at the hotel’s Lapu-lapu Suite which has one (01) king bed and one (01) twin-size bed — in separate bedrooms. The room has tribal design and ethnic textures inspired by the legendary aristocrat warrior (Lapu-lapu) and has more than ample space for working and dining.

The room is clean — smells and looks clean — when I arrived. Plus, it has complimentary cheesecake and donuts perfect with hot coffee (or tea, if you’re not a coffee person).

Among the first things I check in the hotel room assigned to me are the toilet and bath. For this say, I should say that they are spick and span (kudos to the hotel crew). Props to the hotel management, too for using soap and shampoo dispensers as part of their sustainability efforts.

Not that I am complaining, but the king-size bed in this room (at this hotel) is so comfortable. I had been to quite a number of hotels both here and abroad, and there are those beds that are so soft (that you feel you are drowning when you sleep) or so hard (you will notice the pain in your back the following morning). I don’t think that my room had a king-size bed, though. It was more of a king-size++ bed — you will see on my Instagram post that the base of the bed is actually made up of two (02) single beds with an oversized orthopedic mattress — really kewl and awesome!

Hotel Amenities

With a very tight schedule around this visit to Cebu, I was not able to try the indoor pool and hotel gym; but I will definitely on my next visit.
