Casio Computer Co., Ltd., in collaboration with CSC Time Inc., its official distributor in the Philippines, has officially launched the exclusive G-SHOCK MR-G Series at L’Atelier by Lucerne in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. This latest release marks the pinnacle of the renowned G-SHOCK brand and is aimed at capturing the attention of a more professional and discerning market. No less than Kikuo Ibe, Casio’s head of watch design and inventor of the G-SHOCK was present at the Philippine launch event.

The MR-G Series is the result of Casio’s commitment to creating a durable and reliable shock-proof watch that can withstand the demands of everyday life. The journey began in 1981 when the G-SHOCK was invented with the mission of offering a timepiece that could withstand extreme conditions.

Since its initial launch, G-SHOCK has enjoyed immense success, prompting the Japanese-owned brand to take its design to the next level and cater to a more sophisticated audience. Leveraging their unrivaled craftsmanship and experience, Casio introduced the G-SHOCK MR-G series more than a decade later, featuring a full-metal construction that seamlessly combines strength and beauty. These timepieces are meticulously crafted, blending traditional techniques with cutting-edge digital technology, resulting in a series that stands out in terms of color, material, and finish (CMF).

The MR-G watches boast an all-black exterior achieved through the use of the Black Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating, paying homage to the original G-SHOCK brand color. The bezel and dial of the watch feature two Japanese hues: Kachi-iro, known as the “victory color” among samurai warriors, and Akazonae, which represents the crimson armor worn by elite samurai units during the Warring States period.

In terms of material, the G-SHOCK MR-G design showcases its commitment to strength and beauty through its all-metal construction. The band is made of DAT55G, a titanium alloy three times harder than pure titanium, while the bezels are crafted from Cobarion and Ti64 Titanium Alloy, offering both a radiant finish and long-lasting durability.

The finish of the MR-G watches is achieved through a range of meticulous techniques that go above and beyond mass production. Sallaz Polishing considered the ultimate polishing technique among highly skilled artisans, is employed to achieve a flawless mirror finish on the titanium surface. A deep-layer hardening process creates a coating four to five times harder than pure titanium, enhancing scratch resistance. State-of-the-art nano processing by YAMAGATA Casio allows for a defined grind mark finish, while ASANO Bihou, a master of the traditional “tsuiki” hammering technique, adds a rugged texture to the surface. Renowned swordsmith GASSAN Sadanobu carves Yasuri-me patterns on the bands, a technique traditionally used in sword blades to represent the essence of Japanese swords. The bezel showcases a rusted steel texture achieved through the application of a traditional technique by casting artisan KIKUCHI Masano, followed by the hand-carving skills of master chaser KOYABASHI Masao, who adds the image of a majestic dragon. Finally, KOMATSU Kazuhito contributes cutting and polishing expertise to create mirror-surface facet cuts in super-hard Cobarion.

With Kikuo Ibe, the inventor of the G-SHOCK during the Philippine launch of the G-SHOCK MR-G Series.

These meticulously executed manufacturing stages, from design and material selection to finishing touches, demonstrate that the G-SHOCK MR-G series is an essential addition to any watch enthusiast’s collection. Furthermore, customers can soon look forward to the upcoming FROGMAN MRG-BF1000R, a timepiece with ISO-standard 200m water resistance and a titanium exterior finished to perfection. The watch features a sapphire crystal screw-on case back with a blue vapor deposition that depicts the iconic FROGMAN frog character, making it a highly regarded diver’s watch.

Exclusively available at L’Atelier Lucerne in the Philippines, watch enthusiasts can discover the G-SHOCK MR-G series at GF15 Shangri-la at The Fort Manila. Know more about G-SHOCK MR-G by visiting their website and by following their social media presence on Facebook and Instagram.
