Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 4 users — passengers, guests, and employees — can now experience faster Internet connection, thanks to Converge ICT Solutions after they rolled out their 1 Gbps (gigabit per second) fiber connectivity as part of its FREE WIFI project for the benefit of the Philippines’ international and local gateways.

The NAIA Terminal 4 is the first terminal to be launched in the project that was formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between Converge, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), Mactan-Cebu International Airport Authority (MCIAA), Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), and Davao International Airport Authority (DIAA).

“Internet connectivity is among the top complaints of travelers when it comes to airport amenities. We want to do our part in enhancing the Philippines’ image and reputation to foreign and domestic travelers through this connectivity project. Local and international travelers can maximize our fiber-fast connection, especially in digitally-supported processes in checking in and boarding, or even just surfing while waiting for departure or upon their arrival,” according to Dennis Anthony Uy, CEO and Co-Founder of Converge.

The Internet Service Provider (ISP) will soon roll out the project at all terminals of the Davao International Airport (Francisco Bangoy International Airport), Mactan-Cebu International, Airport, Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Bacolod-Silay International Airport, Iloilo International Airport, Laoag International Airport, Pagadian Airport, Tacloban Airport, and Zamboanga International Airport.

I personally tried the FREE WIFI service provided by Converge at the NAIA Terminal 4 and I got the following results:

Importance of Free Fast WiFi at Airports

Why is it essential to have free, fast Internet services via WiFi at airports? Let me explain.

  • Connectivity:
Airports are bustling hubs with a high volume of travelers, and offering free WiFi allows passengers to stay connected to the internet. They can check their emails, communicate with their loved ones, access important information, or simply browse the web during their waiting time. Wi-Fi enables passengers to stay productive, entertained, and informed while they are at the airport.
  • Travel Arrangements:
Many travelers rely on the Internet to make last-minute travel arrangements or check their itineraries. With free WiFi, they can access travel websites, check flight statuses, book hotels or rental cars, and make necessary changes to their plans. It provides convenience and flexibility for passengers to manage their travel arrangements efficiently.
  • Communication:
Free WiFi enables passengers to stay in touch with their family, friends, or colleagues while at the airport. They can make voice or video calls, send messages, or use communication apps to update others about their journey. This is particularly useful for international travelers who may need to communicate with people in different time zones.
  • Entertainment & Relaxation:
Airports often involve long waiting times, and free WiFi allows passengers to access entertainment options such as streaming music, movies, or TV shows. It can help pass the time and make the travel experience more enjoyable. Additionally, passengers can access social media platforms or play online games to relax and unwind during their layovers.
  • Information & Services:
Airports are complex environments with multiple terminals, gates, services, and amenities. Providing free WiFi allows passengers to access airport websites, maps, and directories, making it easier for them to navigate the facilities. They can quickly find information about restaurants, shops, lounges, transportation options, or any other services available at the airport.
  • Business & Productivity:
Many travelers, particularly business professionals, use their waiting time at airports to catch up on work. Free WiFi enables them to access their emails, work on documents, participate in virtual meetings, or connect to their company’s network remotely. It helps maintain productivity and ensures that business travelers can stay connected even while on the go.

Having FREE WiFi at airports enhances the travel experience by providing connectivity, convenience, and access to essential services and information. It has become an expected amenity in modern airports, as it caters to the needs and expectations of tech-savvy passengers.
