Acer has announced an expansion of its developer tools for SpatialLabs™ technology, allowing for the creation of glasses-free, stereoscopic 3D experiences on Acer SpatialLabs Pro devices. The introduction of Unity plug-in support opens up new possibilities for developers in various industries to develop stereo 3D content and applications. Additionally, Acer’s OpenXR runtime for SpatialLabs has received certification, enabling developers to utilize OpenXR protocols when building stereo 3D content and applications on SpatialLabs’ commercial displays. The Acer SteamVR Bridge enhances the potential for VR application developers to deliver immersive experiences using SpatialLabs Pro devices.

By launching support for the Unity plug-in, Acer extends its reach to creators in fields such as education, architecture, construction, and medicine, among others. This, along with the existing Unreal plug-in, allows professional developers to leverage the tools and verticals offered by Unity to enhance their experiences and present their models in true 3D on Acer SpatialLabs Pro Devices, without the need for specialized glasses.

Acer has achieved conformance for its OpenXR Runtime, ensuring that SpatialLabs Pro devices are compatible with OpenXR. As a member of the Khronos OpenXR working group, Acer embraces open standards and is dedicated to creating an accessible ecosystem for its hardware solutions.

This milestone from Acer benefits the extended reality (XR) developer community by providing additional device choices for showcasing high-resolution, glasses-free stereoscopic 3D creations. Content and application creators can take advantage of the cross-platform, high-performance API of OpenXR for faster innovation, combined with Acer’s expertise in delivering immersive, stereoscopic 3D visuals through SpatialLabs. The OpenXR runtime is also available for users of Acer SpatialLabs Pro devices, allowing them to utilize OpenXR-compatible applications like AutoDesk VRED 2023 and Blender.

With the proprietary SteamVR Bridge driver from Acer, developers of VR applications, including virtual tours, art exhibits, and educational content, can convert their creations on SpatialLabs Pro devices to deliver captivating imagery and clarity to users without the need for VR headsets. SpatialLabs Pro device users can also enhance their stereo 3D projection of complex graphics, visual effects, and simulations by leveraging the Acer SteamVR Bridge in conjunction with NVIDIA Omniverse™, streamlining workflows and expanding viewing options.

Visit the SpatialLabs Developer site for more information on the latest updates and experience the SpatialLabs Pro devices firsthand as it will be on display at COMPUTEX from 30 May 2023 to 02 June 2023 at Booth no. M0820, 4F, Hall 1, Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center in Taiwan.
