Not to be outdone by other Android tablets that allow you to make calls, Huawei has announced that they too will be blurring the line between tablets and phones and are releasing their own 7inch device with mobile phone capabilities. Nicknamed a “phablet”, these large tablet devices offering smart phone functionality have been taking the world by storm and are becoming hot commodities with consumers who require multi functionality.

Huawei announced on Monday that the MediaPad 7 Vogue will be equipped with a 7inch, 1,024X 600 pixel display and feature a 3 megapixel rear facing camera. The multimedia device also boasts a microSD slot, 8GB of internal storage and 1GB of RAM, whilst it is powered by a 4,100 mAh battery and the user interface runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The “phablet” arrives in China later this month and expanded availability is expected thereafter, clearly showing just how much of a market share Huawei is seeking. The device will only be available in a Wi-Fi or HSPA+ model and users will be able to play games at top online sites like Lucky Nugget, send and receive emails, browse the internet, make phone calls or send texts.

When the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 was released with a phone function consumers were a bit puzzled as to the logic, but it seems that a crossover device has been met with a good reception and its incentivised Huawei to launch their own Android version.

The device is being marketed as having the functionality of a tablet, smart phone and entertainment centre all delivered in a stylish package. It will be available in black and white with an aluminium body. Huawei’s press release states that the device was designed to cater to technology enthusiasts, fashionistas, entertainment fanatics and just about anyone who expects high performance and ultimate functionality from their mobile device. Huawei’s Chief Excecutive Officer Richard Yu said he was delighted that they were introducing the tablet and that the MediaPad 7 Vogue was an ideal example of how the company was dedicated to making extraordinary experiences possible for everyone.

The device is said to be compatible with a wide range of accessories including a mouse, external keyboard and USB flash disk and will allow for content sharing and Bluetooth. The tablet sounds awesome and I will be keen to give it a try.
