Amid rising cyber threats in the Philippines, cybersecurity firm Kaspersky continues to reinforce its commitment to protecting digital users — from enterprises and government agencies to Gen Z streaming enthusiasts. In an exclusive interview, Adrian Hia, Kaspersky’s Managing Director for Asia Pacific, emphasized the critical role of reliable Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) solutions in today’s fast-evolving threat landscape. Recently, Kaspersky revealed a staggering 7 million compromised streaming accounts globally, including popular platforms like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video.

“Having a reliable EDR solution is no longer optional — it’s essential,” Hia said, citing Kaspersky’s consistent “Strategic Leader” status in AV-Comparatives’ Endpoint Prevention and Response (EPR) tests. “For Philippine businesses and government agencies, our EDR solution delivers strong protection with low total cost of ownership and zero workflow delays — ensuring sensitive data remains secure while maintaining smooth operations.”

Hia also highlighted the importance of affordability and efficiency for Philippine enterprises, especially SMEs. “Filipino businesses are highly conscious of their budgets and need to operate efficiently. Our low TCO and frictionless performance help make advanced cybersecurity a practical investment, not just an ideal,” he added.

Kaspersky’s EDR also achieved 100% active and passive response in both phases of the 2024 AV-Comparatives EPR test. With Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) detected in one out of four companies, particularly in sensitive sectors like finance, healthcare, and government, the need for robust cybersecurity solutions in the country is more urgent than ever.

As the Philippine government continues its digital transformation journey, Hia called for stronger public-private collaboration, “By setting cybersecurity standards and supporting SMEs through training and incentives, the government can accelerate the adoption of trusted solutions like EDR. It’s about creating an environment where strong cybersecurity practices are accessible to all.”

Alongside its enterprise-grade offerings, Kaspersky is addressing a growing cybersecurity issue affecting Gen Z: compromised streaming accounts. According to Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence, over 7 million streaming credentials were leaked in 2024, including 5.6 million from Netflix alone. Brazil, Mexico, and India topped the list of countries with the most compromised accounts.

“For Generation Z, streaming is more than entertainment; it’s a daily habit, a source of identity and community. But that emotional connection also creates a blind spot. Malware hidden in unofficial downloads or third-party tools silently steals login credentials and personal data, which are then traded or sold on cybercriminal forums. Protecting your streaming account today means thinking beyond passwords — it means securing your devices, avoiding suspicious downloads, and being mindful of where your clicks lead you,” comments Polina Tretyak, Digital Footprint Analyst at Kaspersky.

To educate and empower younger users, Kaspersky launched Case 404, an interactive cyber-detective game designed to raise awareness among Gen Z. The game immerses players in realistic online crimes based on actual threats and offers a discount on Kaspersky Premium upon completion.

Kaspersky recommends all users — especially Gen Z streaming fans — take proactive steps to protect their digital lives:

  • Change passwords for potentially compromised accounts and monitor for suspicious activity.
  • Avoid pirated content and always use official streaming apps.
  • Double-check URLs and avoid phishing sites.
  • Be wary of suspicious file types such as .exe or .msi.
  • Use reliable security software like Kaspersky Premium and enable Kaspersky VPN for secure browsing and communication.

By combining robust, enterprise-grade cybersecurity solutions with innovative, youth-oriented awareness campaigns, Kaspersky is setting a gold standard for digital safety in the Philippines. The company’s holistic approach not only addresses the complex needs of businesses, government agencies, and critical sectors but also resonates with the digitally native Gen Z, whose lives are deeply intertwined with streaming platforms and online communities. From defending corporate networks against sophisticated threats to empowering young users through gamified learning experiences like Case 404, Kaspersky is paving the way for a safer digital future. Whether you’re a CEO securing sensitive data or a student binge-watching your favorite series, Kaspersky is committed to protecting every Filipino in their digital journey — one device, one click, and one stream at a time.
