Microsoft Windows 8 Installation on an HP Mini 2133

So, I got hold of a Windows Developer Preview of the upcoming Microsoft OS, Windows 8. Since I do not want to install it on my primary laptop, I made the bold move of installing it on my HP Mini 2133 netbook. Here is what inside my HP Mini 2133:

Processor: VIA C7-M 1200MHz 32-bit
RAM: 2.00GB
Display: 8.9-inch diagonal WXGA (1280 x 768) LCD with CCFL backlight
Keyboard: 92% of a full-sized keyboard
Connectivity: WLAN 802.11a/b/g/n, Ethernet 10/100/1000 Mbits/s,

Microsoft Windows 7

The 22nd of October 2009 marked yet another milestone in Microsoft’s history: launching Windows 7 to the world. While we here in Manila, Philippines still wait for the official launch of Windows 7 on the 7th of November 2009, I was one of the early adopters of the new OS (though I still have to install the retail version to my laptop soon). To summarize things, I am happy with Windows 7!

I hate Windows Vista, actually when I got my HP Mini 2133, a month later I changed my OS to Windows XP dual-booted with Windows 7 Beta (which was later on upgraded to RC). It made my HP Mini 2133 more useful (and faster).

With Windows 7, I got all the guts to be brave and bold enough that I installed the Release Candidate on my newly acquired eMachines laptop.

HP Mini 2133 Battery Tests

Less than a month ago, I “upgraded” my HP Mini 2133 from Microsoft Windows Vista Basic to Windows XP with Service Pack 3. The overall responsiveness of the netbook has improved, though it seems that the battery consumption is a little bit higher. I made another partition to accommodate Windows 7 Beta. Here are the results of my HP Mini 2133 battery stress test experiment:

Total Charging Time: 01 hour, 55 minutes, & 17.6 seconds

I fired up the anti-virus software to scan the hard drive while the netbook is unplugged from the power outlet.

Windows XP SP 3 Usage Time: 01 hour & 33 minutes (low battery prompt goes on at 01 hour & 19 minutes of usage)

Windows 7 Beta (Build 7000) Usage Time: 01 hour & 33 minutes (low battery prompt goes on at 01 hour & 27 minutes of usage)

I remember having used the HP Mini 2133 for full two (02) hours when it was still using Windows Vista Basic. Wondering what’s draining the battery fast in Windows XP & Windows 7.
