Forget about spending a long vacation break paying respects to the dearly departed. It’s going to be a quick one.
Malacañang announced Friday that October 31 and November 2, Halloween Day and All Soul’s Day respectively, will be regular working days.
All Saint’s Day (November 1), when hordes of urban dwellers troop to cemeteries in the provinces, will remain as a non-working holiday.
The Palace had previously allowed Filipinos to spend more time to pay their respects to the deceased, but this time they decided differently.
Radio station dzBB quoted Palace officials as saying that the government gave way to the interest of the business sector, who had bemoaned that holidays that fall in the middle of the week tended to disrupt productivity.
November 1 falls on a Wednesday.
Last week, Malacañang issued Proclamation 1155 to declare October 24 a non-working holiday in commemoration of Eid’l Fitr, or the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.-GMANews.TV
