I had always been an early adopter of mobile technologies, particularly devices. A few years ago, I belong to an “elite” group of Pinoys using devices created by Palm (which was later called as PalmOne and a few years after became known as Palm). The group was called The MaPalad (The Philippine Palm Users Group). The term “mapalad” when translated to Tagalog means “lucky” or “privileged” thus the group is commonly termed as an “elite” squad of techie-savvy geeks and geekettes. Plus, the Tagalog term “palad” in itself literally means “palm” when translated.
Earlier today, I invited some friends wayback the MaPalad days over a cup of coffee to show them the capabilities of Firefox OS using the Developer Preview device produced by GeeksPhone.
I consider this circle of friends as the early “movers” of the local mobile technology scene. They were able to pull events and gatherings for tech enthusiasts way long before local Tech Community Groups were established.
The common response I got from the guests was that “Firefox OS is like what we dreamed when WebOS was launched a few years ago.” Though only a handful from us eventually had the opportunity to try what WebOS has to offer.
