Skyway Marshals: Ignorant or Simply Arrogant (Updated!)

Dear CMMTC Skyway,

Let me tell you what happened to me tonight on the way home at around 1900H:

Going home, my usual route from SLEX is towards EDSA-Magallanes turning right to Rodriguez Avenue in Bangkal, Makati City. Yes, that barangay where the doomed West Tower is.

Some 20 meters from EDSA along Rodriguez Avenue (a one-way street from EDSA going in to the village/barangay), a white pick-up truck with blue & red strobe lights mounted on its top came out of nowhere some two (02) cars in front of me.

At the corner of Gen. Cailles St (yes, I know all of the streets in the village by heart as I grew up there), this white pick-up truck with blue & red strobe lights mounted on its top turned on its headlights into high beam: somewhat signalling me to pull over and give way to it. Heck! I was at the right of way, in the first place, and he’s just making a counter-flow to a one-way street) so I did not obliged, thus turned my headlights into high beam, too. The white pick-up truck (yah! the same vehicle with blue & read strobe lights mounted on its top) honked on me. One this is noticeable, the sound of its horn is similar to the ones being used by PNP and PSG vehicles — yes, a siren (di ba bawal na yun?!)! As I pass by the vehicle, I lowered my window and I can see the sharp look of the driver in uniform (and cap) at me. Not intimidated, I uttered, “bossing, one-way ang pinasukan ninyo” even if I noticed that his window is not rolled down. As there was already around two or three cars behind me, he had no choice but to pullover and give way to us. As I peek in my side mirror, I can clearly see at the rear of the pick-up truck the words “SKYWAY PATROL xx” — I can’t clearly see the number as it was night time already and that corner of Rodriguez Avenue is somewhat not well lit.

So, it was one of your Skyway Marshalls who’s driving the pick-up truck, right? The thing is, how can you instill discipline amongst motorist when your people, themselves are the ones not following even the simplest of traffic rules & regulations, such as a one-way street?

I already sent email to [email protected] and [email protected], just in case you missed reading it. Don’t you worry, next time, I’ll make sure that I will get the pick-up truck body number and picture, if I can.

Thank you!

Update 01: Here’s the response of the Skyway management ..

24 November 2010

Dear Mr. Reyes,

We have eventually learned from the Traffic Officer driving the patrol vehicle and his companion Traffic Enforcer that your report of the incident was accurate and indeed took place after they had dinner at a nearby eatery. They expressed regret for their actions and are extending their apologies to you.

In our company, the assignment of our Traffic Management, Security and Safety Department (TMSSD) staff to Patrol Vehicles is considered both a significant honor and a great responsibility. Because of their actions that night, we have determined that the errant Traffic Officer and Enforcer no longer deserve our confidence to be on a Patrol Vehicle.

Effective today, the Traffic Officer has been assigned to help direct traffic on interchanges (i.e. Bicutan and Sucat) and the Traffic Enforcer to patrol on foot the on and off ramps (i.e. Don Bosco, Amorsolo, Buendia, etc.). The investigation report and findings shall be included in their official company records. The incident and the action taken by us will be
included in the forthcoming briefings of our other TMSSD Patrol Vehicle staff.

Please accept my apologies on behalf of the Skyway O & M Corporation.

In closing, I would like to thank you for taking the time and effort to report the matter to us.

Sincerely,
Ramon M. Borromeo
Officer-In-Charge, Office of the President & CEO
Skyway O & M Corporation

P.S. All our Patrol Vehicles and Motorcycles have authority from the government to possess and use sirens and blinkers. We remind our staff that they are authorized to use sirens and blinkers, not to abuse them.

Red Ribbon Delivery FAIL

A week ago, my wife and I ordered for a cake in time for the 3rd birthday of our son yesterday, 04 Sep 2010. Since Goldilocks do not carry the Ben 10 cartoon design, we had no other choice but to place the order with Red Ribbon Bakeshop at Waltermart Pasong Tamo. I had explicitly instructed the store manager when we placed the birthday cake order to have it delivered at McDonald’s Greenbelt by 1430H of Satuday, 04 Sep 2010 (since the party of my son will start by 1500H; and I do not want the burden of picking-up the cake, and transporting it from Waltermart to Greenbelt without damaging the cake). The delivery charge for cake is not cheap at PHP300 (as taxi fare from Waltermart Pasong Tamo to Greenbelt will just cost at most PHP60) — but talking about convenience of not to worry about the cake before the party starts, I thought to myself, it’s nothing.

Came the birthday of my son. We were at McDonald’s Greenbelt by 1415H, as we are expecting the cake to be delivered in 15 minutes time. Came 1435H and the cake hasn’t arrived yet. I tried calling the delivery hotline of Red Ribbon to make a follow-up, but I was advised that since I ordered the cake at one of their branches, I need to do the follow-up on that particular branch. So I was given a number of Waltermart Pasong Tamo. The problem now is that, when I tried to call the number given to me by their delivery hotline, no one is answering. On my third try, finally I got an answer — a fax tone!

It’s now 1455H, and the cake is still nowhere at sight and the party is about to start, I decided to hail a cab (since I was parked at the 4th level of Greenbelt car park already) and sped off to Waltermart Pasong Tamo — leaving my family at the party venue. I arrived at Red Ribbon Waltermart Pasong Tamo 10 minutes after (traffic is not that cooperative along Pasong Tamo) and I asked where the birthday cake for my son was. To my surprise, the cake is STILL lying at the store — waiting to be picked-up (per the store manager). Are you kidding me?! I paid extra 300 bucks and now you’re telling me that the cake is for pick-up?!

The store manager hurriedly asked one of their staff to go with me and bring the cake to Greenbelt. On the way out of Waltermart, I asked the Red Ribbon staff if they have a vehicle to deliver the cake, and I was told that we shall be hailing a cab. Mama Mia! When we reached Greenbelt, it seems that the Red Ribbon staff is waiting for me to pay the cabbie — hell no! Why would I pay for it?!

In the end, the cake reached the party venue LATE. The bad part — it stressed me out; turned my happy emotions to being furious; I missed the arrival of some of the guests.

Better think thrice of having your birthday cakes delivered by Red Ribbon next time.

07 & 21 Sep 2009 are Non-working Holidays

It was just declared by The Palace today, 04 Sep 2009 (the 2nd birthday of my son, Robyn Andi Xeon) that Mon 07 Sep 2009 and Mon 21 Sep 2009 will be a Non-working Holidays all throughout the Philippines.

07 Sep 2009 was declared as a National Day of Mourning in honor of the Iglesia ni Cristo’s executive leader Eraño Manalo, while 21 Sep 2009 will be for Eid Ul Fitr (last day of Ramadan).

Can’t they just declare my birthday as a holiday as well?

05 Aug 2009 is a Special Non-Working Holiday

In honor of the late President Corazon “Cory” Aquino, it was declared that this Wednesday, 05 August 2009 will be a Special Non-working Holiday all throughout the country. It will also be on this day when the remains of the late President will be laid into rest at the Manila Memorial Park in Parañaque City (where the body of his husband, the late Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino, Jr. lies).

27 Jul 2009 is a Non-Working Holiday! (NOT)

UPDATE: So, someone knocked the head of someone in the Palace. They just released a clarification that 27 July 2009 is a WORKING HOLIDAY. In what part of this planet had you heard of a “working” holiday. Read all BS stuff here.

You read it right! On the last Monday of this month, the 27th, aside from the President (your’s not mine) will give her last SONA (hopefully), it will also coincide with the founding anniversary of the Iglesia ni Cristo. Not much fun fare there was, during our celebration of the country’s independence this year, it was signed into law as RA 9645 declaring the 27th of every July thereafter a non-working holiday.

As of this posting, I cannot locate a copy of the Republic Act. But was lucky to find a copy of the House Bill, which was the basis for this RA.

Live Blogging from SM City Marikina

For the very first time, I had set foot on the City of Marikina! Why am I here? Supposedly, we’re to test the FREE WiFi access provided by SM City Marikina — the first SM Supermall to provide such freebie. The WiFi Stress Test started less than an hour ago, and I’m getting a fairly good signal:

Though SpeedTest.net is saying that I am currently located somewhere in UK(?).

We’re expecting some 300 bloggers and WiFi testers to show up at the SM City Marikina Cyberzone. Hope that all other SM Supermalls will provide Free WiFi access soon.
