PayPal Bonus!

Are you a PayPal user? Ever received a “bonus” from PayPal? I was surprised to see an entry in my PayPal account today that I indeed received a “bonus” of US$1.95 from PayPal.

Then, I just realized, isn’t that US$1.95 the same amount debited by PayPal from my EON Cyber Account (Visa Electron) to verify my user identity? That was months ago already!

WordPress + WP Shopping Cart = WPCart

I had been using WordPress for years now.
I had been teaching ECOMERS and WEBDEV3 for more than two years now.
Why don’t we integrate a shopping cart to the world’s best blogging (or some even uses it as a CMS) engine?

Presenting, WordPress Cart (http://wpcart.turfsiteph.net). Nope, I did not created it! I just installed the WP Shopping Cart plug-in to a WP blog site.

The blog site:

The products page:

I intentionally posted this one just now, during the Finals Week at DLS-CSB .. hehehe .. Makes my ECOMERS/WEBDEV3 studes sigh and say, “Pwede pala yun?!” ..

Ashop Commerce

If you are looking for a better eCommerce shopping cart application for your online store, try Ashop Commerce (http://www.ashopcommerce.com).

It boosts an easy setup, inventory features, fully customizable layout and design, and several payment options. Not mention that this script promotes web optimization by using embedded keywords in titles and meta tags. It also gives the site owner SEO tips in the administrative interface.

A better alternative to expensive eCommerce softwares out there. Try it.

Latest PayPal Transaction

This is to document my latest PayPal Transaction, actually, the first since PayPal allowed Philippine users to receive payments (I was using a US address since 2006, but changed it to my local one last September 2007).

Type of PayPal Account: Business
Debit Card: UnionBankPH EON Cyber Account

I received a payment from a client last 19 November 2007 (yes, that’s from you Kat!). Withdrew the funds from PayPal to my UnionBankPH EON Visa Electron card with a transaction fee of US$5, on the morning of the same date. PayPal said that it will take 5-7 business days for the funds to be credited to my Visa card. Last night, I checked my EON Online Banking account, and indeed the amount from PayPal is already credited.

Total Waiting Time: 5 working days.

So, for the skeptics, PayPal really works with UnionBankPH EON Visa Electron Cyber Account.

Directi ranks TurfSitePH.net Among Philippines’ Top Hosts

TurfSite Computing, Inc. (http://www.turfsiteph.net) is recognized by Directi (http://www.directi.com) as one of the Leading Philippine Webhosting Companies. That is something to be proud of. But another thing that makes me proud is that TurfSitePH.net and Mozcom.com are now equal, based on the chart above. Hehehe…

Sweet revenge. I used to look up to Mozcom.com as my ISP wayback early this decade. Then came the time that they “snatched” a website development project from my team, during the early days of TurfSitePH.net operations. Now, we’re just equal when it comes to client base!

For current TurfSitePH.net clients, thank you for being with us throughout these years. Please do watchout for an exciting improvement on our website hosting services very soon.

“Stupidity” of BDO: Smart Money Transactions

I asked a friend of mine to buy me something at Gilmore yesterday. She had already delivered the item to our place yesterday. This morning, my friend asked me to send the payment thru her Smart Money account. So I immediately went to BDO to make the deposit. I inquired the teller on what form shall I use to make a Smart Money deposit. The teller replied that I should use the Orange form (Bills Payment). After filling-up the form with my friend’s Name and Smart Money Card Number (BTW, the amount is just Php500.00), I fell in the queue line.

Minutes later, it was my turn for service. I handed over the Bills Payment form and money to the teller, and she asked if I have with me the Smart Money card. Of course, I will NOT have the card! She refused to accept my “deposit/payment”, as it is in their policy that the Smart Money card must be physically present when doing a deposit to it. What?! Are you kidding me?!

I asked for the branch manager, whom I know since I maintain my BDO account there. She explained to me that if ever there is an error in the encoding of the Smart Money card in the Bills Payment slip, there is NO way for them to reverse the transaction and to credit the amount to the correct Smart Money card account. I told them that I am very much sure of the Smart Money card number, as it was sent to me by my friend. So she instructed her teller to accept my transaction.

I think it is (sorry for the term) STUPIDITY on the part of BDO to require persons loading, topping-up, depositing, or whatever term you wish to call it, their Smart Money accounts to present their cards when doing such transactions. Some people opted to get a Smart Money card for purposes of Money Transfers and Remittance.

How in the world will it be possible for someone who is sending money (hear and abroad) to someone to get hold of the receipient’s Smart Money card? Does it mean that they are limiting the transaction to the Smart Money card holder themselves only?

Kaya di lumalaganap eCommerce sa Pilipinas e! Better use Globe GCash.

Wirecard: Prepaid (Virtual) Mastercard

Got the info from a local techies eGroup. A new service was launched that lets you use a Virtual Mastercard to purchase online, it is called Wirecard (https://www.wirecard.com/wirecard/app)

What is it?
“As easy as cash. As convenient as a card. Send money, receive money – worldwide and in real-time. Pay with your virtual MasterCard. Experience the advantages of convenient online access that is available 24 hours a day, worldwide. Our latest offer: receive an additional prepaid MasterCard.”

Now, how will you load money to your Prepaid Mastercard?
Currently, the only accept deposits made at Netopia Megamall, Lower Ground Floor
Mega A Building, SM Megamall, EDSA cor. Julia Vargas Ave. Mandaluyong City (soon at other Netopia branches, as posted in their website). Minimum deposit amount is US$15 or roughly Php720. They can also give you a plastic card, if you opt to have it (pamparami ng cards sa wallet).

My wishlist for Wirecard:
1. For them to accept bank deposits (via BDO, preferably);
2. For them to lower the minimum deposit amount to say, US$5 or US$10.

I just hope that with this new product, eCommerce in the Philippines will flourish.
