I had just successfully upgraded the blog engine to WordPress 2.5, and I should say the wait is really worth it! I love the new administration interface, very refreshing to the eyes. And the newest feature of one-click upgrades for my plugins, it’s very very kewl! I was able to upgrade 10 plugins in under two minutes. Isn’t that amazing?

By default, cPanel does not have a built-in function or tool that will let you cloak a domain name or website. But first, what is domain name cloaking?

Let’s say, you bought a domain name: juandelacruz.com and you want users to see your Friendster (or Multiply) profile site when they point their web browsers to your domain. One option you have is to use cPanel’s built-in Redirects tool. But what’s the down side? When people point their web browsers to http://www.juandelacruz.com, they shall be redirected to something like http://www.friendster.com/juandelacruz or http://juandelacruz.multiply.com — with the redirected URL shown on the web browser’s address bar. If you do not want this to happen, a work-around is to cloak your domain name.

Basically, the trick behind cloaking is to create a framed webpage (covering the entire width of the user’s web browser) that bears the redirected website. If you’re just too busy to study the FRAMES in HTML, you may want to use http://script-smart.com/resources/hide-affiliate-link/online-link-cloaker.php instead.

Today is Maundy Thursday, a time to reflect on the past year and what will our future be. It’s a holiday, but why am I on duty?! The last time I was on duty during the Holy Week was five years ago. Today, I have to assist in facilitating the Boeing 747-400 Aircraft Door Operations Training for our staff in two sessions: one in the morning and the other one in the afternoon. Not so bad — even if I am on duty — as after the training, I will have another certification on aircraft doors operation of the B747-400.

Then later, after the after training session, Rose and I will have our Visita Iglesia and perhaps attend the Washing of the Feet tonight at SIP.

The Captain’s Log (http://jepoy.bengero.com) is running a contest, and they (he) are (is) giving-away two (02) PLDT Landline Plus Sim cards to lucky bloggers. Mechanics of this contest can be found here.

If you haven’t heard about it yet, PLDT recently launched their wireless landline solution — that uses a SIM card. What does this mean? It simply means that the wireless landline service (from PLDT) can be used in any GSM phone unit that is locked or unlocked to Smart Communications. Kewl, isn’t it?

I guess you had heard stories of fellow Pinoy bloggers who were able to buy a used car (just like Abe of yugatech.com) and a brand new house & lot (like Jedi of tsikot.com), thanks to their blogs (and advertisers, i.e. Google AdSense + banner links).

How about a Pinoy that was able to buy a brand new car through blogging?

I will still have to wait for a couple of weeks for my Chery QQ3 (in blue, just like the one in the picture below) to arrive, since my favorite color is currently out-of-stock (available now are models in green & yellow; the red one’s are reserved for Coca-Cola Philippines — around 200++ units).

Blogging is truly great!

Had you ever experienced opening a folder in Windows XP and it takes around 30 seconds to a minute (or even more) before you can actually see the files & folders in it? Mind you, I had experienced this even if my machine is sporting around 1GB of RAM.

As you had guessed, the culprit is Windows XP’s default settings. You see, Windows XP will try to automatically locate network drives, folders, and printers by default. This happens every time you open a folder in Windows XP. To avoid the lookups, go to My Computer. Click on Tools > Folder Options. In the Folder Options, click on the View tab and uncheck the option “Automatically search for network folders and printers.”

This should make your folder browsing a little bit faster (even if you just have 256MB of RAM).

Ever experienced going to a website and your browser will display: Page cannot be displayed?

The computer unit that we share for internet surfing at home uses Smart Broadband. It is not once that I have to call their Customer Service Hotline just to ask them to refresh their DNS Servers, because we are trying to access a website, which we firmly know that is online (because TurfSitePH.net is the host) and does exist, but gets the “Page cannot be displayed” error over and over again. It only means one thing, the DNS Server of my ISP is broken.

Now, if you do not want to spend wasting your time calling your ISP just to request them to refresh their DNS servers (based on my experience, they will act on it after 48 hours), you may want to use OpenDNS instead? OpenDNS will let you use their DNS Servers, instead of the ones provided by your ISP. In this way, we can be assured that we are browsing the latest version of the website, and it also gives you a safeguard against phishers and scammers, as they try to block websites that fall to these categories when you surf to them.

swingoutsister.jpgFinally, after almost two decades, SOS (Swing Out Sister) is back in Manila! And I will definitely watch them perform live. I am not a big fan; I am a huge SOS fan! How huge? If my child (Robyn) was a girl, she would had been named as Robyn Corinne Xeon (SOS’ lead vocalist Corinne Drewery), but he’s a guy, so his name is Robyn Andi Xeon (after Andy Connel, SOS’ keyboardist). And the last time that they visited the Philippines was almost 20 years ago, I was still at elementary school then and my parents will not allow me to watch them at the PICC.

The date is 07 April 2008 2000H at the Araneta Coliseum, oh no, it’s Monday, have class. But wait (checks the calendar again), it’s a holiday (in lieu of 09 April 2008 — sometimes, I love this government)! Reserve your tickets now via http://www.ticketnet.com.ph
