I had completely missed my lunch the other day, since I had a light snack at around 11am.

While waiting for a report that I will have to process to come-in, I decided to pay BrainBench.com a visit. It has been months already since I last visited the site, December 2006 to be precise. For those who still do not know, BrainBench.com offers online computer skills assessment. Years back, all of their tests were for Free, they will even send you via courier the certificates in board paper. But now, only a handful of exams can be taken online without any charge, but still, these are certification exams.

I decided to taken the Microsoft Office 2003 Fundamentals exam. Consist of sixty (60) questions in four (04) different sets: 1. Microsoft Office Word 2003; 2. Microsoft Office Excel 2003; 3. Microsoft Office PowerPoint 2003; and Microsoft Office Outlook 2003.

Gained another logo for my resume, bringing the total to thirteen (13) BrainBench and one (01) Microsoft certifications all-in-all.

I mean it, big time!

Last Sunday, Easter Sunday, after attending the 9.30am mass, my wife and I headed on to the house of my parents. It was around 10.45am then, and I told my dad not to cook anymore. We’ll just order at KFC. Unfortunately, all of the KFC branches near our house were closed. They’re going to take our orders if we are willing to wait for one and a half hours. What?! So, never mind KFC.

My brother and I thought of Jollibee, as there are atleast three (03) branches near our place. So I placed an order for two (02) buckets of chicken joy (six pieces each), costing around Php700++, with specific instructions that all be in white meat, as both of my parents have medical conditions that restricts them to having white meat only. I made that instruction clear with the call center agent who took my order. He said that it will be done. He will coordinate with branch who will deliver to us.

Less than thirty minutes later, their rider came and I accepted the buckets. My mistake that I didn’t checked on the contents of the bucket. To our surprise, what was inside the buckets were pieces of chicken wings and thin legs. I immediately called 87-000 and inquired why was that given to us, despite the specific instructions. What the call center agent did was to transfer me to their Customer Service. No one answered. I waited until the ring changed to a busy tone. Tried calling 87-000 again. And finally, after the fourth try, I was able to speak with a Customer Service Agent. They apologized, but I didn’t accepted their lame excuse that it was the fault of the branch. So what the CS agent did was to ask the Branch Manager to give me a call. Minutes later, already starving and angry, the Branch Manager gave me a call and apologized. She said that there was no instruction and she even told the Call Center (87-000) that they only had wings and legs (that looks like they were leftovers two days ago). I called 87-000 again, asked for the agent who took my order, and he said that he gave the instructions clearly to the branch who will deliver. Ahhh .. we’re going in circles now. The Call Center blaming the Branch, and the Branch Manager blaming the Call Center. I banged the phone and went online to make a formal complain, carbon copy DTI.

We ended-up having a meal from Max’s :P

It seems that not much are online yet this time and day of the week, as my internet connection is fairly fast. We’ll see later, tonight if it is still the scenario.

I always rely on ISAW (Internet Security And Warfare) when it comes to the juiciest news on the local internet and security (read as hacking/hacked) scene. Let me just share with you two articles that will make everybody aware on the importance of using a strong(er) password and what keyloggers are really all about. To quote:

Strong password; weak owner

And you thought that @#jbrem*+ is a safe password, but why do I have it? How about IlfIltIltGatGlm?, It looks safe but again why do I have it? These are two of the 30 passwords that I have collected when I went to an Internet Cafe in a big mall in Manila yesterday. Other passwords include “cutecute” “hanuka123″ “god” etc. The accounts of these passwords inlude corporate email, yahoo, gmail, buyandsell, jobstreet and more.

ISAW reported about the proliferation of keyloggers in almost all Internet cafes in Manila. I have experienced it first hand yesterday. By pressing CTRL + ALT and A, a password dialogue box will appear for administration, to my surprise the password of the Perfect Keylogger of that internet cafe is “password1″. I tried their other available computers and all have the same passwords.

How many Filipinos are using the internet cafes for sensitive transactions? If you are an Internet cafe user and have accessed your email and other applications that require a password then you are at risk.”

Keyloggers in cafes sanctioned by the government

ISAW was informed that most of the keyloggers in Internet cafes are sanctioned by the governmet. An Internet cafe owner informed us that some personnel of a law enforcement agency has approaced him and talked to him about the possibility of putting keyloggers in all of his internet cafes. The trade-off is that they “will not be touched” with their use of pirated copies of some software.

“If you have heard of the arrest of a communist rebel in Mindanao, the information that resulted to that arrest was extracted from one of the PCs in one of my cafes.” The email sender claiming to be the owner of an Internet cafe in Sampaloc said that he agreed not because of the trade-off, since he is using licensed software, but because of the good that it would bring to the community.”

Stay safe online.

Rose and I went to the Awards Night of the 2007 Philippine Blog Awards (PBA) at the RCBC Plaza, Makati City. We arrived at the venue at around 1730H, and were greeted by Gail Dela Cruz-Villanueva, one of the PBA organizers. The food was great, my wife loved it. I just had iced tea — two glasses of it.

Minutes after 6pm (moments before 7pm, hehehe), we were ushered to our seats. The badges given to me and Rose indicated us as ‘Guests’, so we’re led to the balcony of the RCBC Podium 4. Later, it was announced that all ‘Finalists’ should be seated at the Orchestra.

Though I didn’t win in the Bloggers’ Choice Awards category, the feeling of being there, the First Philippine Blog Awards is just great! Oh, did I mentioned that all of the attendees got some freebies? I also won in the raffle: 2pcs of rechargeable Sanyo Batteries. Great for my tv’s remote control.

After the Awards Night, the scheduled meeting of the Adobe User’s Group Philippines pushed through at the Starbuck’s inside the mess hall of the RCBC Plaza. It was attended by 12 members, including me. We raffled one (01) Adobe Creative Suite (CS) 3 (licensed). Nope, it was not me who won the software, but managed to bring home one (01) Adobe gel pen and one (01) tumbler from the raffle. I also met two MMA grads in the meeting.

I’m still searching for the pics taken last night. Onwards to Philippine Blog Awards 2008! Mabuhay ang Blogistang Pinoy!

For professional photography you need a camera. There is a huge variety of equipment being used in film making, many film makers use spotlights for better picture quality. The easels are providing best collection for media.
