At Home On A Sunday

Author: Bob

I was feverish since Thursday this week. But it was not until this morning when I noticed some rashes on my chest. My initial reaction was to think what did I had last night. An allergy, perhaps? When I showed my rashes to my parents, I told them that it may had been caused by mosquito bites. “What mosquito?”, my dad told me (as we used to have a dealership of aluminum and screens in Parañaque, and our house is well protected by these stuff against mosquitoes).

I was on my way to the church, that’s around  8am when I decided to “rush myself” to the hospital. I was at the San Juan De Dios Emergency Room minutes later. So I texted my dad and told him that I am there, brought to the Isolation Room from the ER. Hehehe .. My dad arrived, and asked the hospital staff to admit me (so that I may rest) for a day or two, but they will not let me stay there as I got measles. What?! I was sent home, and was given some medications and was advised to take a bed rest for the next 2 days.

It’s been years ago since I stayed at home on a Sunday. Usually, after hearing (and playing) at the 9.30am mass, Rose and I will go malling til around 7pm or 8pm. Now, I here, in front of the PC while waiting for TrueFaith to appear in both ASAP and SOP.

My other baby website, http://www.turfsiteph.net has just recorded its 10,000th hit mark tonight.

A brief history: I started the business late 2003, since I was “forced” by my friends, whose websites I had been hosting (some for free, some for a fee) for a couple of months already that year. As of November 2003, TurfSite Computing, Inc. is nothing but a sub-domain at bobreyes.com. I just created a simply webpage (not even a website) to accept orders online (thanks to the power of Form Mailers). Almost a year later, on 10 DEC 2004, the first version of the Official TurfSite Computing, Inc. website was launched (the domain was bought on 09 DEC 2004).

From 3 clients to 150 today — not to mention my resellers and their respective clients. And by the way, we do have clients as far as Dubai in the East and in New York up North.

Thanks to all who supported TurfSite Computing, Inc. in one way or the other! And we do hope that you will continue supporting our goal of making website hosting affordable for Pinoys (worldwide).

The camera has become need for many people and you can see many companies are making compact digital camera because of its demand. Especially wedding cameras are in great demand. The use of film cameras for personal purposes is increasing.

I can still remember, it was 23 FEB 1986, I was fetched by my uncle from school (I was in Kinder that time, yeah! I’m not that old). We’re still in Scarlet Homes, Moonwalk, Parañaque City that time — a few kilometers away from Villamor Air Base (VAB). Can’t forget the images of three Sikorsky (I simply know them as helicopters then) attack choppers passing just above me and my uncle and moments later, one of the planes launched a rocket towards the direction of VAB. I thought it was just an airshow, yehey! But my uncle knows that it is not.

We hurried back home, since we are still to attend the birthday celebration of my cousin in Makati that afternoon. Two hours later, enroute to Makati, as we approached the gates of Merville (the location that now has Jollibee at the corner), we were greeted by fully uniformed soldiers with tanks coming from both sides of the streets and were asked to just stay at home since there was a “national emegerncy”. And the rest was history.

That’s what I can remember of EDSA 1986. How about you?

Save the Dogs

Author: Bob

I had always loved dogs. I can still remember how I cried during my High School days when my first dog (my buddy for almost a decade) died while a storm was hitting Manila hard.

Last night, I saw in Jessica Soho Reports on how one foundation takes care of rescued dogs. They are called the Animal Kingdom Foundation.

Saw their website at http://www.animalkingdomfoundation.org and sent an email to them asking on how can I have one of their nice shirts. Just received a reply from them, and the shirt costs Php220.00 only (plus Php50.00 for the shipping within Metro Manila). Also, they are asking for our help in adopting their dogs (physically or thru the net).

More power to the foundation. I am one with your endeavors.

Lovapalooza 2007

Author: Bob

The Philippines will attempt to regain the World Record snatched by Hungary in 2005 for having the most number of couples kissing simultaneously within one minute. If you will remember, the Philippines made history for having more than 5,000 couples kiss for a minute at the strike of Valentine’s Day of 2004 (I was there!).

And Lovapalooza 2007 is just hours from happening at the SM Mall of Asia. As of this writing, traffic at the southbound lane of EDSA towards Makati and Pasay is already a nightmare.

Good luck to the participants!

Smart Bro Was Down

Author: Bob

For the first time in five weeks after installation, my Smart Bro Wireless Internet was down. It was around 2130H last night, when my younger brother was surfing the internet that he complained of a lagging connection.

I checked for the possible problem(s), and found out that their DNS is dying (at that moment). Minutes later, there was not a single ping available: NO INTERNET CONNECTION.

I immediately called their technical support, and I was advised that there was a technical maintenance on-going at the base station (cell site). What?! A technical maintenance without prior advise? I was instructed to monitor if my internet connection will be back in service within 24 hours. Geez, do I really need to monitor that? So, 30 minutes after that conversation, I retired.

At 0800H this morning, I checked my PC, which has the Smart Bro connection, and it is still down. An hour and a half later, my internet connection is up! I only rant that the next time they do conduct a technical maintenance, they should advise their customers first.

Got the information from a local mailing list, I made the screenshots so as everbody will be made aware of this phising scam.

The website looks like it is really the online banking interface of Equitable-PCI Bank:

But, if you will take a closer look at the address:

What happens if you enter your login credentials in this site? Then, it’s like giving the hackers unlimited access to your online bank account.

Don’t tell me that I did not warned you. Always keep safe. Look for the https, not just http mark on your web browser’s address bar.

Enables a reliable measurement of technical proficiency and expertise in using Windows Server 2003 to provide hosted services.

Microsoft Corp., today announced the first Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) exam for IT and hosting professionals to gain Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist status in configuring and managing Windows Server 2003 Hosted Environments.

The exam, 70-501 TS: Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Hosted Environments, Configuring and Managing, is designed to enable a reliable measurement of technical proficiency and expertise in using Windows Server 2003 to provide hosted services.

“Microsoft recognizes that as the technology used to deliver advanced hosted services becomes more complex, the requirement for industry-specific skills has grown. This certification program will help hosting providers address that need. With the right skills, hosting providers are able to deliver a positive experience for their customers, while the certification allows them to stand out in an increasingly competitive marketplace”, said John Zanni, Director of Worldwide Hosting at the company.
