Pluto: A Planet No More
The International Astronomical Union (IAU) yesterday voted out Pluto as the ninth planet in the Solar System. They had established a new set of rules before a celestial body is considered to be a planet:
“A celestial body that is in orbit around the sun, has sufficient mass for its self-gravity to overcome rigid body forces so that it assumes a … nearly round shape, and has cleared the neighborhood around its orbit.”
And based on this new definition of a planet, Pluto is not one. It was demoted from Planet status to a Dwarf object.
I guess, they have to re-write all of the science books that tells us that we have nine (09) planets in the Solar System.
Boyet Bautista Enters the PBA!
The long wait is over: Boyet Bautista has entered the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA)! Among the forty-seven (47) applicants yesterday at the PBA Rookie Draft held at Market! Market! Taguig City, Boyet was chosen by the Purefoods Chunky Giants as the 9th Overall Pick.
Together with Rose, my brother Ronnie, and Boyet’s youngest sibling Bryan, we trooped to the Market! Market! as early as 1230H, to get the best seats available in the activity area of the said mall. As early as that time, that part of the mall area is already jampacked! Finally, fifteen minutes later, we settled ourselves at the left side of the stage, at the rear of the dratee’s parents’ area.
Some forty-five (45) minutes since the draft has started, the name of my cousin has not yet been called. Everyone is nervous, especially his parents. On my part, I cracked jokes to Rose, Ronnie, and Bryan: asking them if Boyet will be picked on the first or second round (a total of 20 hopefuls were picked yesterday: 10 on each round). Then, when Comm. Noli Eala was handed-over with the 9th Overall Picked, and he announced: “The Purefoods Chunky Giants pick as the 9th Overall, Boyet Bautista of Letran!” It was great! I didn’t even knew what was happening around me. To our right side were former high school classmates of Boyet in CSJL, cheering: “Boyet! Boyet! Boyet!” I immediately dialed home (since the event was not telecast live) and informed my dad & mom that finally Boyet was picked before the end of the 1st round.
Thanks to all those who supported Boyet in one way or the other. For all thos who prayed for him, please do continue praying for my cousin. The entire De La Cruz clan is in celebration since yesterday! Mabuhay ka, Boyet Bautista!
Mom is Out of the Hospital
After almost a week of confinement, my mom was finally discharged from the hospital last Saturday after lunch. Thanks for all your prayers! Now, we are hoping for her full recovery.
CSJL wins over SSC-R 62-56
The Knights of Letran College kept their composure Wednesday to beat the San Sebastian Stags, 62-56, during the 82nd National Collegiate Athlectic Association men’s basketball at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. The tandem of Aaron Aban and Boyet Bautista derailed the Stags’ plan to come back in the fourth quarter as they poured in marker after marker inside the paint.
Letran led by as much as 16 points in the game. That, however, was slowly eaten away by baskets coming from the Stags’ Red Vicente and John Raymundo. With less than a minute to go, the Knights saw their lead being cut down to five, 59-54.
After he came back from the bench, Bautista sealed the win for the Intramuros-based squad with a two-point basket with 28 ticks left. Aban also contributed with a charity shot in the dying seconds of the game.
Aban and Bautista were named best players of the game. Bautista led the Knights with 14 points, 3 rebounds and 1 steal while Aban powered his way with 13 markers, 2 boards and a steal.

Mom is Still Sick …
She is still confined at the ICU, though she is concious and talking well. Her doctor told us that she may look fine in the outside, but somewhere in her head (brain, that is) lies a blood clot or something.
Please continue praying for her fast recovery from mild stroke.
